Next Race 19th April Entry and Race Info
After last weeks successful race at Cape Paterson, with nearly 200 competitors, with 65kids, a few of the Barracudas ventured up to Sandringham to contest the Gatorade triathlon, 800 competitors, with conditions favorable and a good swell in the swim, our little fish did well, There were two races, Competing in the Olympic distance, (1.5km swim/40km bike/10km run) was;
Phil Hanley taking out his age in a time of - 2.10.44 - swim-26.44, bike-1.01.30, run- 39.02
Mark Rowe - 2nd in age -13th overall - 1.59.12 - swim-25.15, bike- 59.38, run- 33.02
Thierry Rowland- 9th in age - -2.13.19 -swim- 28.11, bike- 1.02.47, run- 38.31
Deb Rielly - 4th in age - -2.31.24 - swim- 30.57, bike-1.08.35, run-47.17
Lou Derricks - 6th in age -2.49.43 - swim- 35.22, bike-1.20.36, run-48.53
Others that have got the triathlon bug contested the sprint distance, 500m swim, 20km bike and 5km run were;
Rhett McLennan from Leongatha, winning the Clydesdale section in a not so shabby time of 1.14.03, swim--16.09, bike- 32.48, run- 21.07
Jamie Grenville - 1.16.04, swim- 17.54, bike- 33.03, and running exactly the same split as Rhett in 21.07.
Well done to all the guys who got up at 3.30 am to travel down to Sandringham, coming home tired, aching and a little more out of pocket than expected when the parking inspector of the Bayside council decided to book everyone (except sponsors vehichles) a bit harsh considering the race started at 7, the ticket booth doesnt open till 8 and the race takes up to 3hrs to run.
A great summer's day and calm seas resulted in record entries for the Dune2Dune Triathlon. In the end there were 131 adult entries and 65 for the GoTriItKids .
The starts were staggered with long course entrants going 20 minutes prior to the short race. Near flat seas meant clear water for the competitors and full view of the Cape marine environmet( If you had to time to look ! ). A low tide meant an exit from the water unimpeded by the rocks which has happened in previous years.
With light winds , fast bike times were the order of the day with the guns completing their first lap well under the half hour.
In the short course a young Simon Carey blitzed the field finishing more than 2 minutes ahead of Naish Chapman followed closely by Michael Pratt. In the women's field Shae Thomas was well ahead coming in under the hour. Second was well known local Deb Rielly with Bernadette Spinks in 3rd.
In the long race Brad Campbell was again first for his 3rd consecutive win in the January event. Rohan Ware was 2nd coming in just behind team Cougar Hunters and Anthony Rule was 3rd. In the women's race it was Raelene Quinn in front of Zoe Miller and Samantha Grant. The local derby challenges of the day saw Brian Martin too strong for the younger Jake Laine . Thierry Rolland showed he is in great from coming in ahead of local veteran
Phil Hanley - whose time was still outstanding .
Thanks to all volunteers and sponsors ,in particular the SES , Wonthaggi Life Saving Club , Lions Club , Coastal Cruizers , Alex Scott , Crossover Cycles , VisionStream , Retravision.
See you all for the last race on the Victorian triathlon calendar again at Cape Paterson for the Autumn Dune2Dune on the 19th April.

Perfect conditions greeted competitors for the Anderson Inlet Triathlon , the
rain had stopped , a moderate breeze to keep things honest and a nearly slack
tide - so this year you had to swim! The fickle tides meant a last minute change
to the swim course , to one we will probably use again. Stuart Walpole emerged
from the water with a handy lead but was soon chased down on the bike Luke
Thomas and Latrobe Valley's Paul Taylor. Just over 30 seconds separated the pair
after the bike .Third out of T2 was local legend Phil Hanley with the team
combination of Luke Plant and Eamon Feely back in 4th. At the
finish Luke Thomas was able to hold off a fast finishing Paul Taylor ; Paul
recording the fastest run split of the day with Stuart Walpole 3rd.
Plant&Feely were 4th overall and 1st team , Tim Robinson in 5th and Phil
Hanley in 6th.
A little way
back in the field the closest age group was being fought out in the 45-49s with
Brian Martin's strong bike leg being enough to hold off Rick Whitehouse by a
mere 13 seconds. Samantha Grant took out the Women's race with Zoe Miller 2nd
and Lauren Isles 3rd. In the teams Plant & felly were well ahead of Wells
Fargo and Leather Jackets .
Bass Coast Barracudas would like to thank major
sponsors Alex Scott , Vision Stream and Crossover Cycles and the Esplanade Hotel
and also Inverloch Surf Life Saving Club (sorry for forgetting at presentation)
, SES , Parks Victoria, Lions Club , Wonthaggi Little Athletics , Coastal
Crewzers the Cape Crew , the Beachbox , Foowworks ,and all other volunteers and
sponsors , will post a full list soon.

The Anderson's Inlet Triathlon was held on 2/12/2007 at Inverloch in perfect
conditions.A total of 42 entrants competed with 36 teams and 6 individuals.
Again competitor were treated to a fast swim in the swift outgoing Anderson's
inlet current. Competitors then faced a challenging coastal bike leg with an
everchanging gusty wind . By the turn on the bike leg Chris Joustra was well out
in front and was able to maitain his lead to the finish, In second place was
Latrobe Valleys Graham Alford. A fast finsihing Paul Taylor passed locals
towards the end of the run to finish 3rd . The local war between Phil Hanley and
Thierry Rolland with them changing places several times , but the gap is getting
closer . Deb Rielly again competed well taking out the women's
competition.

The Barracuda crew headed over to Somers for race 3 of the Duathlon series. This was a slightly longer race over 5.5/22/2.8 .Phil again won his age group in scintillating time. Rick and Gavin were 5th and 7th in their age group. The one thing I hate about triathlon results is the inclusion of transitions in the bike time , and web results say you averaged 28 when you know it was like 33.(Have to somehow justify the recent purchase)
