Twilight Triathlon 2017

Inverloch turned it on for the 2017 edition of the Twilight Triathlon with the temperatures perfect for racing . A fresh South East wind change arrived as predicted just on race start and proved to be handful for everyone on the return leg of the bike . With the outgoing current still strong a quick swim was the order of the day . Jonney Yeates demonstrated how to coolly turn a deficit into into a lead in transition …. twice…. Then outran all his competitors with sub 18 run split of 17:16. Aidan Rich was in second The ever consistent Matt Sullivan was a minute back in third , it was a full 3 minutes before Jim Peachey was across the line in 4th.

A strong women’s filed was out there with 25-29 year age group being the biggest in the field . Hilary Meyer , with several previous placings in Barracuda events , broke through for a win making 10 minute improvement over last years event . Brittany Campbell finished second ,  with a sub 20 minute run split moving past Katherine Henderson who finished in third .

Barracuda members were scarce , some recovering from their efforts at Geelong , but it was the fast improving Damien King blitzing the rest ahead of Rod McCall , Andy Chisolm and Rick Whitehouse . Veteran local Jenny Merrick again put in a strong performance while still recovering from her efforts at Geelong last weekend .

Barracudas would like to thank the Inverloch Surf Lifesaving Club , Coastal Cruizers( transition) , sponsor Wheelheat , Bass Coast Fat Bikes , Alex Scott Wonthaggi and especially Deb Reilly for her sterling effort as Race Director . Thanks to all competitors and we are looking forward to you coming back next seasons Alex Scott Series . Don’t forget the Keeping Kids on Track Fun Run->  next Sunday .  Results are up at Tomato Timing->  , some Images at here->   .
