Twilight Triathlon Feb 16 2013
A warm day greeted competitors for the first twilight triathlon to be held by the Barracudas . True to form the local seabreeze had filled in by the start time of 4.30pm. Fortunately there was a bit of south in its direction lessening the amount of chop on the inlet. For only the second time the swim leg was held with an incoming tide , starting on the now shallow “Pensioner’s Point” and finishing at the yacht club boat ramp. The pleasant air and water temperatures saw many competitors ditching the security of their wetsuits. A fast tide assisted swim was followed by the bike leg out to Cape Paterson ,with fast speeds the order of the day . Competitors were greeted by the teeth of energy sapping easterly as soon as they made the turn . Leading the charge on the return leg was Keith Colomb followed by Brett Franklin. On the 5km circuit of the walking track Keith Colomb held off Brett Franklin for the win in a time of 1:04:45 , just outside Brett’s record time for the new course, with Jamie Edwards from ETPA in third. Latrobe Valley athlete Paul Taylor came 4th with Charles Martin in 5th. Thierry edged Phil in theongoing Rolland-Hanley derby. In the women’s field Raeleigh Harris outclassed in a time of 1:12:36 the rest coming in 7 minutes ahead of Kristi Davidson with Kara Landell’s in 3rd. The teams event was a closely fought affair with local team Troaurael just beating The Twins . Unfortunately for the Rielly Twins their cyclist was otherwise engaged and not at transition when swimmer Dylan came in well ahead of the other team . Presentations were held in the Esplanade Hotel afterwards . The Bass Coast Barracudas would like to thank , Alex Scott and Staff , the Esplanade Hotel , Crossover Cycles , ETPA/Evolution Cycles , the SES and all the local volunteers . See you all at Kilcunda in 4 weeks for the KKOT Fun Run .
