FUNRUN SUPPORTS KONGOR SCHOOL SUPPORT GROUP.

The Keeping kids on track funrun is less than 5 weeks away- Saturday March 15! Planning is well underway; many fun-runners and serious athletes alike have already entered, and numbers are limited this year to 500 – so don’t leave it too late!

Join us in Kilcunda, with your family and friends to enjoy as little as a leisurely 3km stroll, or challenge yourself with a longer distance, (5km, 10km, 15km, 21.1km), all the while experiencing the breath-taking views along the Kilcunda-Wonthaggi Rail Trail.

The Bass Coast Barracudas Triathlon Club in conjunction with other local groups have endeavoured to create an event which includes competitors of various ages and abilities by offering various distances, and we encourage participation from both locals and visitors alike. If competing in the funrun is not your ‘thing’, we would still love to hear from you if you would like to volunteer on the day!

It is a fundraising event in memory of Leslie Mckay, a highly regarded mentor of youth and a fine advocate for reaching beyond our boundaries. The event has evolved to become a family-fun festival; in 2013 it included live musical entertainment, and this will expand in 2014. If you are interested in becoming involved please contact Deb or Louise (see below).

Each year this event has also made a donation of $1,000.00 to the locally founded KONGOR SCHOOL SUPPORT GROUP – a charity established 3 years ago by Felicia Di Stefano to rebuild the Kongor primary school in South Sudan. To date, $88,000.00 has been raised of which $40,000.00 has been used to purchase & transport a block making machine as well as paying for a trainer to come to Kongor to train the village people in block making and in building construction. “On behalf of the Kongor people, I wish to pass on their sincere thanks to the many people involved in helping the Kongor school support group to achieve what has been achieved so far” said Felicia.

The funrun will also include entertainment and a festive atmosphere at the finish line including market stalls and food. To further add to their the funds, the Kongor school will set up a market stall providing professional masseuse shoulder/neck massages, home made cakes, biscuits, a lucky dip for the kids, hand-turned pens and more.

So, get online and enter for the funrun NOW to avoid disappointment as numbers are limited:   fun run page for entry  and bring along your family and friends to enjoy the entertainment and fun at the finish line!

  1. The children of Kongor are very grateful to you for your support of the effort to rebuild their school in South Sudan. We all hope that education will become a tool to overcome frequent conflict as well as the injustices of extreme poverty.
