Anderson Inlet Triathlon 2015

Inverloch turned on a gorgeous day for the 2015 Anderson Inlet Triathlon , weather perfect for breaking records.  52 competitors graced the start line with a large female component of 21 individuals and 5 in teams . The start was delayed to allow the swim to start at  slack low tide which  made for a fair swim with little assistance from the current .First onto the bike was the local favourite from Wonthaggi Matt Sullivan with Luke Jackson hot on his heels . Light , though shifting winds made for fast bike time out on the bike course and Jake Riley passed Matt on the bike to record a bike time of 37:28 averaging 40 km/h. A fast run split of sub 18 minutes saw Matt again take out the event in 1:04:16 eclipsing the race record formerly held by Brett Franklin. Jake Riley was in second and consistent effort from Paul Taylor saw him in 3rd.

In the women’s field local athlete Susie Crowe was first into transition but was passed in transition by Erin Kerr . At the end of the bike it was still Erin and Susie leading the field . In the end Erin held off the fast finishing Shannon Cole and Hilary Meyer with the fasted run split finished in 3rd place.  12375611_10208215368721069_1353255045_oIn the women new club member Rebeka Fincher was too strong for Jenny Merrick . Other notable performances were local Damien Crowe’s strong performance in his return to the sport of triathlon. A strong performance by youngest competitor Jett Attard  coming all the way from Mount Gambier . Strong performance by the Buxton boys and a strong finish by new Barracuda committee member Ian Dorrity. 12375641_10208215425962500_788133464_o

12375760_10208215426202506_227442991_o  In local battle of the Barracudas the trio of Gavin Slavin , Brian Martin and Rick Whitehouse all emerged from the water neck and neck . There was an odd scene where Brian was seen carrying the shoes,( rather than wearing them )  that he had carefully placed at the swim exit so he could cushion his feet on the run back to transition! There was a bit of shoulder being thrown in by the Vice President who clearly unimpressed by more senior competitors going passed him . Out on the bike Gavin soon cleared out and was never going to be headed . The ongoing decade plus long  battle between Brian Martin and Rick Whitehouse was then played out with positions changing 8 or 9 times on the bike with Rick finally passing Brian in the early stages of the run.
Presentations were held in the Esplanade hotel following the race . The club committee first of all Deb Rielly for for her fantastic job of MC for the race . Volunteer group Inverloch Surf Lifesaving Club  , SES  , coastal crewzers ( transition marshalling) , Hollins family ( drink station et al ) .Sponsors Wheelheat , Alex Scott , Esplanade HOtel and Chris Baillie of Bass Coast Fat Bikes who awarded a $100 voucher at presentation.   Results are all available at Tomato Timing. Next race is the Dune2Dune at Cape Paterson on 3rd January , offering both a Sprint and near Olympic distance races in with a swim in the tranquil bay at Cape , the same scenic bike route and protected run including some cliffside tracks. This race is popular so get on and enter online early at our Event Page->
