So the weather Gods were not smiling for the Bass Coast Barracudas and drummed up a howling Soueaster with a significant swell creating an outgoing rip in the back part of the normally tranquil bay. Mark and the crew from Wotnhaggi Life Saving Club were able to set a safe but significantly shortened swim course . 42 competitors braved the long course with 66 in the short. The shortened course made for quick swim times despite the conditions with Magnus Michelsson leading the field out of T1 just ahead of Luke Whitmore . Luke soon took the lead with Jamie Edwards moving into second out on the road . In the women’s field Amanda wallis was well ahead of Molly Irvine and Lou Wotton . In the teams the the Wilson sisters with Amanda Wilson doing the swim and bike leg were well ahead.
The short course got underway very soon after with the two locals Matt Sullivan and Brett Franklin passing the middle of the long course field before the end of the bike leg . Brett was to almost catch Matt and the bike but Matt cleared with a strong run to win the event with Brett in second and
Jonney Yeates in third. In the women’s field it was Katherine Henderson well ahead of Suzie Crowe and Penny Nevill .
Out on the bike for the long course it was burning quads going out on the second lap into the strengthening Soueaster but a quick pace coming home . Luke Whitmore was well ahead on the bike and was never going to be caught on the run . Jamie Edwards hit the run course second with Mack Clarkson edging past Magnus into T2. Mack and Magnus went past Jamie in the rrun and it was a sprint up the sand for second place with Mack Clarkson getting across the line just 3 seconds ahead of Magnus .
