A record field of 89 starters hit the water for the 2016 Esplanade Hotel Twilight Triathlon . With a light to moderate southwest wind blowing and a a slack low tide conditions were perfect for racing . After swim of 600m there was a 500m run back to transition. Jake Templar was first to hit T1 followed closely by Monty Frankish. The bike course was 12 1/2 km into the headwind to Cape Paterson with a fast trip back home. Sam Beveridge took the lead out on the bike with Brett Franklin hot on his tail both posting bike times under 38 minutes with Brett 1 second outside of a record bike split. Sam arrived at T2 with a 20 second lead over Brett which he extended by almost half a minute on the run . Brett was second with Monty Frankish a further minute back in 3rd .
In the women’s field Molly Irvine was first to T1 with Alice Baquie and Hilary Meyer close behind. Molly soon pulled well clear on the bike with Hilary edging past Alice near the turnaround. Molly remained well ahead finishing almost 3 minutes ahead. Alice Baquie seemed to fly on the run , with a run split of under 20 minutes to come in second with Hilary in 3rd.
In the teams it was the Barker Kids finishing well ahead of the Barracuda combination the Cameo Crusaders . The Inverloch Park Run combo Tag You’re it were first in the all girls section.
Presentations were held in the Esplanade Hotel after the race .
