Barracuda News May 2016

Several  of the Barracudas have been active in 70.3 races across the country with three  qualifying for the next World 70.3 championships which will take place in September in Mooloolaba . Jenny Merrick continues on her whirlwind tour of triathlon , smashing the recent Busselton 70.3  . Jenny won the 65-69 age group with a time just over 6 hours in 6:16 , with a swim of 41:52 , bike 3:07:14 , and a 2:18:38.32 half marathon – go Jen  – > Jen’s results .

After taking out the Gatorade series in his age group yet again Phil Hanley has won his age group at the Port Macquarie 70.3 comprehensively in a time just over 5 hours . Swim  00:35:18  Bike 02:37:16  Run 01:45:11 Total 05:01:50.

Brett Franklin was 14th overall at Port Macquarie 70.3 , and 5th in his age group with one of the fastest bike times of the day . Swim  00:35:10 Bike 02:18:51 Run 01:24:58 Overall 04:22:39.

BE CAREFUL out there on your bike  especially on the wet road during the winter . The club president was unfortunate enough to recently come down on a corner is laid up with a fractured femur . Get well soon Cam .

The Wings of Life run will take place tomorrow night on the Monash Freeway at 9 pm . It is a unique run starting in 34 locations across the world simultaneously . The finish line comes from behind in the form of a catcher car which starts at a speed of 15km/hr after the runners and gradually increases pace . The secretary and vice president ( Gav and Rick ) are breaking ranks and taking on the adventure race  at Lysterfield on 15th May. The event is a team of 2 with navigational challenges and kayak, mountain bike and run segments . The exact  course is kept secret until race day .  Gav and Rick were seen somewhere kayaking in last Tuesday’s hurricane . There will be a wrap up volunteers party for all our events at the Archies Creek Hall next Saturday with several bands playing . Funds raised will go to relay for life .-> Party and Event Info
